Jetski Regulations

The following information is only a summary of the most important regulations. A complete copy of the regulations can be obtained from the PWCA on request.

  • All water vessels are required to be registered with the PWCA before being launched. .
  • All persons using vessels on any waters do so at their own risk.  The operator is responsible for the condition of the vessel, his/her safety must ensure     that the regulations are not transgressed.      
  • No person shall launch or land any vessel at any place other than designated launch/land sites.
  • For registration, the following items are needed and must be present at all times whilst the vessel is on any waters. – Life jackets (to be worn by all  persons on the vessel): Helmets optional but recommended.
  • All vessels must operate only within the confines of the area demarcated for that vessel.
  • No person may re-fuel on the water.  Re-fuelling shall only take place more than 20m from the water edge.
  • No mechanically powered vessel may operate in areas demarcated as a sanctuary.
  • No operator shall operate or permit any other person to act in a reckless or negligent manner.
  • No person shall operate a vessel whilst under the influence of alcohol or narcotic drugs.
  • Passing vessels must ensure that if is safe to do so and that they pass at a speed and distance so as not to endanger the overtaken vessel.
  • The vessels or operators acting in violation of any provision of these regulations shall be subject to removal from the water and/or cancellation of their current registration and/or a fine of R500.
  • Any operator of an unregistered vessel found on the water shall be prosecuted for trespassing.
  • The general rule is an anti clockwise direction around the demarcated area
  •  2 meters from the shore is classified as a no wake zone, this means no excessive speeds or Mavericks as people are swimming. (most important safety rule of all)
  • When the race course is in use no craft is permitted to cut through the buoys or centre of the track.
